Imagination & Fabrication by Art Quilters of the Lowcountry

Imagination & Fabrication, an exhibit opening April 9 at Art League Gallery, celebrates fiber art and its unique ability, using various textures and quilting, to create the illusion of a third dimension. The artist’s imagination creates the design and their skilled use of fabric, thread, dyes, embellishments and quilting fabricates the final work of art. To illustrate this concept, the Art Quilters, in addition to their own artwork, took the same photograph and used their imagination to create five different fabricated versions which will also be on exhibit.

Art Quilters of the Lowcountry consists of five award-winning artists. Ron Hodge creates his art with one constant, his precision piecing and beadwork. Donna Stankiewicz paints the fabric with various dyes and then embellishes with applique and thread painting. Shaaron Thomas paints on silk and then threads, paints and quilts her work. Peg Weschke creates fiber collages to realistically portray Lowcountry scenes. Jody Wigton uses color and improvisational piecing to create beautiful abstract art.

These five unique styles create an exciting fiber art show. The artists hope their joy of creation and passion for fiber art brings smiles and delight to those that view it. Imagination & Fabrication, by Art Quilters of the Lowcountry, will be on exhibit at Art League Gallery, April 9 – May 4, 2019. An artist reception will be held on Wednesday, April 10, from 5-7pm.

Enjoy an added exhibit bonus as award-winning Art League Academy students from the Winter 2019 Academy classes showcase their award-winning artworks alongside their instructors.
