Artist Statement

Kristin Griffis was born and raised on Hilton Head Island. At the age of sixteen, her first job was at a hand-painted clothing store which filled orders from catalogs such as Newport News and Chadwick’s. Four years later, she moved to San Francisco.

The first public display of her artwork was at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on Union Square. She was involved in the music scene and developed a passion for the design of musical instruments, especially the guitar.

In 2013 and 2014 she sold 2 paintings to Immaculate Baking, a subdivision of General Mills. The paintings reside in their Folk Art museum and her art was used on the packaging for two of their products, one seasonal and one in their current line.

Kristin once again lives on Hilton Head Island, where her art is inspired by the music of her friends and “Island Life.”

The current instructor exhibition at Art League Academy Gallery represents the styles and media taught by Art League Academy’s full time and part time faculty.

The exhibit features exquisite works from over 10 faulty members. The artwork does a great job at showing potential students the styles they could be learning in the different classes and workshops offered all year around at Art League Academy.
