LYNDA K. POTTER was born and educated in New York state. Early in her childhood she realized art would be a lifelong passion. Lynda has also lived in Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania and for the past 15 years has lived in Bluffton, South Carolina. Lynda also maintains studio and gallery affiliations in Savannah, Georgia. She has continued to teach as well as create and show her art no matter where she has lived.
Although Lynda works in many media, Watermedia is her usual milieu, switching deftly between acrylics and watercolors, often using both to create complex, multilayered mixed-media pieces. When she is not painting rich, rhythmic floral pieces, she produces loose, atmospheric architectural works based on the historic houses of Savannah, Georgia and her hometown of Bluffton, South Carolina. Lynda says she’d, “Rather paint a thousand paintings than to think of words to describe my lifelong passion for art. The art I do comes from my inner core and does not talk, but evolves.”
Creativity has always been the key ingredient in her artistic pursuit. Lynda approaches each new painting in a different manner and thought process. For Lynda, the freedom of blank creamy canvas provides (the) inspiration to let the colors flow and the soft lines that form are then blended with one another. The subject may evolve or it may not need to be one. Sometimes her subject evolves, sometimes remains abstract. As a working professional working artist for more than three decades, this seems to work well for her. She loves to relay information gained from the world around her to those who are looking for a meaningful experience when viewing art.
Lynda Potter had her first solo show in 1978 and has since had over 35 more solo shows. Since she was first accepted into a juried show in 1982, many juried shows have followed with various awards and prizes. Lynda has had her art published in five books and is listed in the national register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals in the 2003-2004 edition.
Lynda has taught workshops and classes locally and SoBA and the Art Academy on Hilton Head Island and in the region. Lynda’s work is in collections both private and corporate in various countries around the world. Currently she has her home studio where she can be contacted.
