Acrylic paint is an opaque medium similar to oils.  However, it can also have a transparent, many-layered look through the application of specific techniques and methods in conjunction with use of a paint medium. 

This paint-along demo will feature how to use the layering process using an acrylic medium to create the illusion of glass and clear water, among other applications. 

Alex will be using gloss medium to mix with her paints.  Any acrylic medium is fine (matte, gloss et al)

Imagine achieving definition and detail—while painting in a free, loose and intuitive manner.   Watercolor enhanced with ink is an ideal medium in which to capture the look of any scene.  

Alex Sharma will demonstrate the process of painting loosely, followed by drawing with ink to define the scene—all carried out in a spontaneous manner. 

To paint along all you will need is watercolor paints, paper, brush and one indelible marker or ink pen

Value variations are the basis of strong, vibrant artwork.  The use of light and dark values will bring strong contrast through bright highlights and dark shadows.

Alex will demonstrate in watercolor; however, the color mixing and variations are common to all media.

Plan to paint along in the medium of your choice.

DESCRIPTION:  This demo will focus on spontaneous, simplified methods for painting the look of Low Country flora—from Spartina grass to Spanish moss, Palmetto palms, and pine straw.

This paint-along demo will focus on brush technique and color mixing to obtain a lively, realistic appearance of the subject in a variety of seasons. 

Alex will be painting in watercolor but methods are appropriate for all painting media.

This paint along demo will focus on techniques to portray fur, hair, and eyes. Accurate proportions, and color and tonal relationships will also be covered.

Alex will be painting in watercolor but many of the techniques covered are appropriate for all paint media.

Getting the right green for your subject can often be a big challenge. 

This paint along demo will give you all the information and methods you will need to portray greens in sunlight, low light, shadow, and distance.  The following specific greens will widen your color palette and create new exciting greens: sap, phthalo, viridian, hookers, and intense. 

Alex will paint in watercolor but the color mixings are applicable to all paint media.

Dramatic skies at sunset, or with high wind clouds, puffy cumulonimbus clouds, rain clouds etc., are often the reason that we are drawn to paint a scene.

This demo/class will cover the techniques used to obtain all of the above types of cloud formations and the colors associated with them. Paint along in watercolor with Alex Sharma as she demonstrates specific brush strokes, wet-on-wet, and mixing techniques to obtain dramatic results. All you will need is watercolor paints, paper, and one or two good brushes.

Colors Alex will use for this demo: Cobalt blue, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow

Getting the look of something shiny—like glass or polished metal—can sometimes be a challenge. Both are shiny and have reflections, but glass has something more: transparency.

Alex Sharma will demonstrate in watercolors to show how to use color and value to create the illusion desired. Paint along in watercolor—or in oils or acrylics .

Trees have fascinating and identifiable shapes that can be wonderful focal points for any painting.

Alex Sharma will demonstrate some colorful, ways to create the dynamic sculptural look of trees taking into consideration light, shadows and reflections.

Create ” EVENING REST ” along side nationally acclaimed artist ADDISON PALMER.

Each student will paint ” EVENING REST “. Addison will also be painting and demonstrating along the way. Teaching all the fundamentals to create the painting. All levels are welcome to join.

We will be using acrylic paint. Oil painters are asked to use acrylic paint,at the beginning stages. Then apply oil on top of the acrylic.
